Pivot3 Announces Strategic Partnership With dce 6 Mar, 2012

Transatlantic collaboration to offer hosted deployments of VMware View™ Desktop-as-a-Service, and Storage-as-a-Service packages to mid-market in UK and Ireland.

Austin, TX and London, UK – March 6, 2012 – Pivot3, a US-based leading provider of unified storage and compute appliances, today announced a strategic partnership with UK-based next generation data center provider Data City Exchange (dce) for the deployment of VMware View-based virtual desktop infrastructure and storage services targeted at the mid-market in the UK and Ireland.

This partnership will deliver mid-market customers a range of hosted “off-the-shelf” packaged deployments based on the Pivot3 vSTAC™ appliances running within the dce Evo-POD™ data center modules. Packaged deployments will include “Storage-as-a-Service” and “Desktop-as-a-Service” and will be configured and tailored for vertical markets within local government, media and finance.

The Pivot3 vSTAC VDI appliances are purpose-built to fill the gap in the VDI mid-market segment. They unify the delivery of virtualized desktops with scale-out SAN storage across simple to consume commodity appliances. The Pivot3 vSTAC VDI product is a stackable virtual desktop infrastructure appliance that delivers a unified high-performance compute and storage platform for VMware View environments. This allows customers to have the benefits of enterprise-class SAN storage while eliminating the barriers of cost and complexity.

Through their strategic partnership Pivot3 and dce will deliver a range of on-demand virtual business applications which will be hosted within dce’s unique, sustainable Evo-POD data center modules and delivered across a combined VMware and Pivot3 technology platform. The Evo-POD is available in mixed density 96, 48 and 24 rack modules and can be delivered using evaporative free air or water chilled cooling.

Commenting on the partnership, Tim Chambers, Technical Director of dce, said, “The dce ethos is about strength in delivery through our network of technology partners and our strategic partnership with Pivot3 is testament to this. The industry is demanding innovative solutions to their business practices and, working alongside Pivot3, dce can provide scalable applications with will meet and exceed their business goals. The combined Pivot3 dce VDI solution demonstrates how business critical applications can be delivered not only simply and affordably, but also environmentally efficiently.“

The Pivot3 vSTAC VDI solution is a “pay-as-you-grow” low entry cost appliance model that allows simple future planning with the same cost basis at one hundred virtual desktops or over one thousand virtual desktops. Its linear scalability in terms of cost and performance makes it an ideal choice for an on-demand solution.

Welcoming the announcement, Dieter Kondek, Vice-President & General Manager International for Pivot3, said, “This partnership presents a very powerful combination of disruptive technologies which will deliver exceptional value and compelling benefits to customers in both the UK and Ireland. Apart from Pivot3’s unique application value, Pivot3 vSTAC appliances also reduce power and cooling by 40% and when combined with the dce Evo-POD, this drives even greater environmental efficiencies.”

John Eland, Managing Director of dce, added, “We are delighted to be working with Pivot3 to deliver cutting edge virtualized business solutions hosted within our secure next generation data centre facilities. This is a clear illustration of our on-going commitment to deliver enterprise class cloud services that are both rapid deployment and best in class.”

Birmingham and Belfast have been selected by dce to be the first in a series of next generation data centres being built across the UK, Ireland and Europe. These high security modular sites are specifically designed to house the Evo-POD and will deliver capacity in excess of 1400 racks at each location. These major flagship facilities are due for completion in Q1 2013 and will complement the dce offer of interconnected data centre colocation space at over 15 existing third party locations across Europe.
